Different types of intraocular lenses are available:

  • Monofocal IOL: This is the most commonly used lens worldwide. It gives good distance vision while the patient has to use glasses for near and intermediate vision.

  • Multifocal IOL: These are the next generation of lenses which provide good distance, intermediate and near vision. However, a few patients who drive regularly might feel halos and glares at night.

  • Toric IOL: These lenses correct the cylindrical component or astigmatism. These are available in both mono and multi-focal. If you have high astigmatism or a cylindrical power, your doctor may recommend a toric lens for you.
